The Money Is Already There.
Many insurance policies include coverage for fire department response. The families and businesses in your district already pay for it through their premiums. Most of it goes unclaimed because the billing process is complex and time-consuming.
Meanwhile, equipment costs keep climbing, from IR cameras to aerial ladders. Budgets are being cut, and fundraising is harder than ever.
What Can Be Recovered
- Working fires
- Motor vehicle collisions
- Non-member fires
- Other everyday emergency calls
What gets billed: The services your department provides and the materials you use, at the rates set in a price list built for your department’s equipment and materials.
Your Part Is Short. Ours Isn't.
We work within your guidelines and departmental by-laws.
You Pay Only When We Collect.
There’s no startup cost and no per-report fee. We keep 15% of the revenue we collect. If we don’t recover anything, you owe nothing.
Already Billing? Compare Your Collections.
In an Emergency Services Institute survey of 504 volunteer fire companies, almost half billed for some type of service. Of those, 60% collected less than 20% of what they billed.
Switching is simple. We’ll pursue incidents up to 2 years before your contract date, including claims your previous billing company failed to collect.
Collection Rate
Incidents submitted more than 6 months after the incident date are billed at 35% of collected revenue, to cover the additional follow-up these claims require.
Why Departments Don't Bill, and What the Data Says.
The Emergency Services Institute asked 504 volunteer fire companies why they don’t bill. Here are their top reasons and the answers.
Feared a negative community response
Among communities that are billed, 41% view it favorably, 38% are indifferent, and 13% don't know. Only 7% are unfavorable.
Shared legal concerns
To date, we haven't seen any legal ramifications from billing. If one ever arises, we have representation from Fire/EMS law specialists.
Didn't think it was cost effective.
You pay nothing unless we collect. Every dollar we recover is a dollar your department didn't have before.
Had philosophical concerns: "We're volunteers. We don't do this for money."
This isn't about profit. It's about the equipment and gear that keep your volunteers safe.
