Questions? We've Got Answers.
Here’s what fire departments ask us most. If you don’t see your question, give us a call. We’re always happy to talk.
Costs & Commitment
How much does it cost to start with Sure Fire Recovery Services?
Nothing. There is no startup cost.
What does it cost per report submitted?
Nothing. There is no charge of any kind until we recover money for your department.
Will this change our department's tax-exempt status?
No. Your tax-exempt status stays exactly the same.
How much time will this take on our part?
Very little. You already work hard enough on the scene, and you shouldn’t have to work hard behind the scenes too. Let us do the work for you.
Getting Started
We've never billed before. Is getting started difficult?
Not at all. We specialize in departments that are new to billing. We take the time to cover every detail so your startup is as smooth as possible.
Do we have to redo our incident reports?
In most cases, no. If your current report is missing information we need, we’ll provide a secondary form or draft a new report for you.
How do we submit reports?
You can submit reports by mail, by email, or online.
Can we meet with a Sure Fire Recovery Services representative?
Absolutely. We enjoy meeting with departments either in person or through Zoom!
Billing & Eligibility
Do we need an ordinance in place to bill?
No. An ordinance can help in some cases, but it isn’t required.
We don't have an ordinance. Can you help us with one?
Yes. We have many example ordinances we’re happy to share with you.
Can we still bill if our municipality funds our department?
Yes. Very few departments are 100% funded by their municipality. Many insurance policies also include clauses that cover fire department response, whether the responding department is a fully funded city department or a volunteer department.
Can we bill only insurance companies and not send bills to individuals?
Yes. Many of the departments we work with bill insurance companies only.
Can we bill individuals if an insurance company denies the initial claim?
Yes, if your department chooses to. Several of our departments pursue claims beyond the insurance company. It’s your decision, and we follow your guidelines.
Can we still submit prior incident reports?
Yes. We can submit incidents that occurred up to 2 years before your contract date. Incidents submitted more than 6 months after the incident date are billed at 35% of collected revenue, to cover the additional follow-up these claims require.
